First Communion
At St John's we believe people of all ages are members of the body of Christ and all are welcome to join in with the family meal, Holy Communion (or 'The Eucharist'). In the early church Holy Communion immediately followed Baptism and even young babies had a small spoonful of wine! In the Church of England, in discussion with their parents, children from age seven and upwards can be prepared to receive Holy Communion before confirmation as a sign of God's continuing grace and welcome first marked at Baptism. Children at St John's take their preparation very seriously and seem to glow with joy at their service of First Communion which they all treat with great respect.
