St John's Vision
When St John's church first opened in 1913, sheep and cows from neighbouring farms sometimes found their way to church. Now the Parish of St John's Hurst Green, while still semi-rural, is home to nearly 7,500 people and we live 'To be a church without walls at the heart of the community'.
Some of the things we are focusing on at the moment include:
-
Missionary Disciples
-
Adopting more environmentally sustainable practices and energy provision. To achieve the A Rocha Eco Church Silver award (and be working towards the Gold Award) and be an established community hub in sharing information on and facilitating environmentally sustainable practices.
-
Be at the heart of the local infrastructure that supports our local community and we will be visible, accessible and inclusive to all.
-
Diversity
-
Redevelop the physical layout church to ensure that anyone can enter a safe, welcoming, sustainable, and inclusive environment and we will have completed accessibility awareness training.
-
Training our leaders to feel confident in their understanding of unconscious bias and inclusion. As a result, St John’s will be more consciously inclusive church, whether that is around race and ethnicity, gender, LGBT + identities, or disability
-
Making our church completely inclusive of young children and young people
-
Mix Ecology
-
Develop our Digital offering
-
Café church will be a fertile ground for the development of lay people and young people to exercise and develop their gifts in leadership, music, the arts, preaching and teaching for the glory of God.
-
Crossing the Threshold Project.
But most importantly we are here today, now, in the present moment for any who want to spend time in the presence of God and connect with other like-minded people. St John's is your church. We welcome you. Do come and find out more.
