'LET THERE BE LIGHT' FLOWER FESTIVAL - 11-14 July 2019

A glorious flower festival was held in church from 11-14 July.  The display featured 25 exhibits from local organisations, children's groups and flower arrangers.  The church looked wonderful with colourful exhibits based on the theme 'Let There Be Light' and the festival was the first in a series of fundraising events to raise money for a new lighting system.  The theme was interpreted in a myriad of ways, from the very popular 'Midday Sun' to the rainbow-coloured 'After the Rain'.  Refreshments were available throughout, with excellent home-made cakes provided by church members.  These raised over £270.  Many people visited, including a lady who travelled 35 miles after finding it listed on the internet!  The final total raised after all funds and Gift Aid are received will be an amazing £1,351.  This includes generous donations from Paul James Jewellers, Titsey and District Rotary Club, CES Lighting and Hurst Green Tennis Club.  To see pictures of the festival click on the photo.

ROGATION WALK - 23 June 2019

A group of enthusiastic walkers from the Oxted Team of churches 'Beat the Bounds' on a circular walk around all four churches.  We started at St Mary's, Oxted, and walked to St John's, Hurst Green to attend the regular Parish Communion service at 9.30am.  Following a reviving cup of coffee after the service, others joined the group for the walk to St George's, Crowhurst.  We had a picnic lunch there and Revd Anna Eltringham led a short, informal service to bless the fields in all directions.  Some left the walk there but others joined before we continued on our way to St Peter's, Tandridge.  There we were treated to tea and delicious cakes before we headed off home.  Thanks to Michael Harman for organising the walk and to all at the churches for their hospitality.  Pictures of the walk can be seen here.

25TH ANNIVERSARY OF MARY SELLER'S ORDINATION - 26 May 2019

On 26 May we celebrated the 25th anniversary of Mary Seller's ordination. Mary was one of the first women priests to be ordained. Our very talented Hilary Dilnot made a stole for her which was embroidered with Mary's favourite wild flowers which can be found in the grounds of St John's. And later that day, we continued the celebrations with a tea party, attended by over 80 people. A very special day to celebrate Mary's continuing ministry.
