Children & Youth

St John's aims to extend a warm welcome to everyone from 0 to 90+ !

We are delighted to welcome children and young people and offer a variety of groups for them.

We have a creche for the 0 - 4's which meets every Sunday at 9.30am in The York Rooms. The children return to us at the administration of Communion.

We have two Children's Groups:  4 to 7 years (Pebbles) and 8 years and over (Rocks).

Each week Sunday School is based around the day's Gospel reading or sometimes a Psalm or Old Testament reading. The different age groups learn through use of artwork, singing, games and even mini-dramas.

The groups usually meet on Sundays from 9.30am except the First Sunday of the Month when there is an all-age service which involves the children. The youngsters return to us at the Peace and share whatever they have been learning.

Children who do not want to join a group are always very welcome to remain in church; there is a space towards the back with toys, books and drawing things for parents with young children to use.

Some of our youngsters aged over 8 years have been preparing to take their first communion at the beginning of February.  Anna, our vicar, and others have been giving them weekly instructionon Sunday mornings.  As you can see from the photo, it has been fun!

On Sunday evenings in term time we have a fortnightly youth group - Uplift - which meets in the York Rooms.  Further details are on the 'Uplift' page.

Extra youth events are organised once or twice a year, bringing in Christian artists from around the country to do workshops, alongside other crafts and activities.

We are always happy to hear from potential volunteers to help with Sunday School - a turn on the rota comes round no more than once every 5 - 6 weeks. This can be very rewarding and fun.

If you think you might be able to help, please get in touch with Peter on 01883 713056.

Children and Youngsters are always welcome in the Church Choir which practices on Wednesdays at 7.45pm.
