Centenary Celebrations

CENTENARY YEAR

During July 1912 the foundation stone of St John's was laid and the building was consecrated in July 1913.

In 2012 - 2013 St John's celebrated its Centenary with many events.

Our Centenary Celebrations commenced 6 July 2012 with the Flower Festival
and concluded 14 July 2013 with a special service with Bishop Christopher

  FLOWER FESTIVAL - Theme 'CELEBRATING SPORT'  held in CHURCH & the YORK ROOMS

                       THE BIG TEA  in the church grounds with marquee and  steel band

SONGS OF PRAISE in church

   FILM - 1962 CHURCH EXTENSION and 1988 fire, with  supper

  EDWARDIAN MUSICAL/MUSIC HALL evening with supper, at Aggies

  CANDLEMAS DINNER BY CANDLELIGHT in the  church    

100 YEARS IN HURST GREEN in the church
display of artefacts and images; 
  reminiscences - written & spoken; art exhibition; talk with slides;
open forum - put your questions/comments to the panel
 Refreshments available throughout & soup lunch 12noon - 2pm Saturday

    BEETLE DRIVE evening with Fish & Chip Supper at Aggies    

TREASURE HUNT from St Agatha's Hall to the Church  

       BANNER WORKSHOP 

  'QUIZ NIGHT’  at Aggies.

SPECIAL CENTENARY SERVICE
at St John's led by the Bishop of Southwark and including the dedication of a banner.

  Afterwards in the York Rooms a celebratory feast was prepared
 and Bishop Christopher cut the specially prepared centenary cake.

CENTENARY BOOK

As part of the centenary celebrations a short illustrated book about the growth of the Hurst Green community and the story of the church built to serve it, called

‘A Hundred Years in Hurst Green - The Church of St. John The Evangelist’.
